I.S.E.O Summer School 2017

The Centre for Poverty and Development Studies (CPDS) is proud to announce that Mr. Muhamad Hilmi Abdul Rahman, Social Research Officer of the Centre has been awarded a scholarship from The Institute for Studies on Economic and Employment, Italy to participate in the 14th edition of the I.S.E.O Summer School from 17-24 June 2017.

The I.S.E.O Summer School is one of the few summer courses in the world featuring several Nobel Laureates. It is organized by the I.S.E.O Institute, a non profit institute chaired by Prof. Robert Solow. For its 14th edition, taking place in Iseo (Brescia, Italy) from 17-24 June 2017, it will feature Jean Tirole (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2014 ), Eric Maskin (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2007) and Michael Spence (Nobel Laureate in Economics 2001). The panel will be further enriched by the presence of international economists such as Michele Boldrin (Washington University in St.Louis), Daniel Gros (Director Centre for European policy studies), Ulrich Volz (Soas University of London) and Dimitra Petropoulou (University of Surrey).

The main title of the upcoming edition is “The global economy: searching for a new equilibrium”. Nobel Laureates and economists will get deep into the most topical discussion on global economy: crucial factors as worldwide growth strategies, welfare state patterns, inequalities, emerging economies and labor markets are just some of the themes which will emerge during lectures and discussions. Lectures of the I·S·E·O Summer School are made of a fair combination between frontal speech and debates with the participants. That’s why every lecturer is asked to concentrate his speech in the very first part of the class and then leave the stage to participants, to share ideas and views in a strongly stimulating environment.

The aim of the I.S.E.O. Summer School is that of bringing together a large number of graduate students coming from universities worldwide: participants improve their knowledge in economics and, at the same time, are involved in a huge debate, which is somehow unique, thanks to the multiethnic and academic variety of its participants.

Since 2004, the various editions of the I.S.E.O Summer School have been attended by 855 students coming from 100 Countries and 321 different universities in the World. The various past editions featured 16 Nobel Laureates in economics as lecturers.
